Punjab govt providing free cardiac treatment worth Rs 3bln annually: Salman Rafique

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th May, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the Punjab government is providing the best medical facilities to patients suffering from heart diseases under the Chief Minister’s Adult Cardiac Surgery Program, adding that free treatment facilities worth more than Rs 3 billion are being provided to patients annually.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting through video link on Sunday to review important matters regarding Nawaz Sharif Cardiac Center Murree. Executive Director RIC Professor Musfirah and MS General Hospital Samli Dr. Qaiser Abbasi briefed the meeting.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the Punjab government is committed to ensuring quality healthcare services for cardiac patients across the province.

He said that Jinnah Institute of Cardiology Lahore and Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology Sargodha would soon be made operational.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department Azmat Mahmood said that effective measures were being taken to provide better medical facilities at Nawaz Sharif Cardiac Center Murree. He added that an additional Rs 100 million was being provided to the cardiac center for the treatment of patients.

He said the government was ensuring the provision of improved healthcare facilities in cardiac hospitals across Punjab.

Special Secretary Operations Nabila Irfan, Additional Secretary Admin Khadijat ul-Kubra, CEO Punjab Health Initiative Management Company Dr. Ali Razaq, Dr. Umar Farooq and other officers also participated in the meeting.
