LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmad Mian said that the Punjab government has introduced a series of reforms aimed at improving transparency in the local government system, strengthening monitoring mechanisms and enhancing public service delivery.
He made these remarks while briefing a delegation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on ongoing projects, administrative reforms and the modern monitoring system of the Local Government and Community Development Department Punjab.
Special Secretary Administration Arshad Baig, Special Secretary Development Shahid Zaman Lak, the Director General Local Government, the Additional Secretary Administration and Local Government board Secretary Tariq Farooq were also present on the occasion.
During the briefing, officials highlighted the modern sanitation system introduced under the Suthra Punjab programme, effective waste management measures and newly adopted monitoring procedures. Mian said the monitoring system under the programme has been shifted from divisional to district level to ensure improved and timely public services.
He said the Punjab Development Programme has been designed keeping in view the province’s requirements for the next 25 years.
Under the programme, 56 new disposal stations and 34 underground water recharge tanks are being constructed, while work has also begun to transform 485 villages into model villages.
He said restoration work on ponds in 22,986 villages is being carried out in phases to improve drainage and environmental conditions in rural areas. He added that special emphasis has been placed on the use of e-governance to promote transparency in local government, while the implementation of the E-Filing Office Automation System (E-FOAS) has significantly improved administrative efficiency.
The delegation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa included Local Government and Rural Development Department Secretary Zafarul islam, Director General Local Government and Rural Development Kamran Khan, Director Technical Adnan Nawaz, Chief Engineer LCB Ishraq Ahmad and Deputy Director Technical Uzair Ali.
The visiting delegation expressed keen interest in Punjab’s modern sanitation and monitoring system and appreciated the measures taken by the provincial government.
At the conclusion of the visit, Mr Mian presented a commemorative shield to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delegation.
