Punjab govt decides to expand rural water supply, sanitation project

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The Punjab government has approved the expansion of the scope of the Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water to the rural population.

Under this decision, the coverage of the project will be increased within the allocated funding and more rural areas will be included.

According to the government decision, new areas will be included to improve the water supply and drainage system, while the upgradation of tube wells, filtration plants and sewage system will also be part of the project.

The authorities said that this move will significantly improve clean water and sanitation facilities in rural areas and help reduce water-borne diseases.

The project will be implemented by the Local Government and Community Development Department, while a special monitoring mechanism will also be introduced for transparent and effective monitoring of the project.
