PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Comprehensive draft of proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Acid, Corrosive and Burning Substances Crimes (Prevention and Rehabilitation) Act, 2026 has been formally submitted to Social Welfare Department for further process and consideration.

The draft that was prepared after six years of consistent and dedicated efforts was initially launched from the platform of the Women Parliamentary Caucus and pursued in an organized and institutional manner through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women.

The proposed law not only prescribes strict penalties and an effective enforcement mechanism but it also includes clear provisions for victims’ medical treatment, psychological support, legal assistance and social rehabilitation. It is designed to ensure focused protection of victims’ rights and their dignified reintegration into society.

Chairperson of the Commission, Dr Sumera Shams also participated in the process and extended her guidance and support to advance this important legislative development.

Program Director Amina Durrani played a key role in inter-departmental coordination, stakeholder consultations, and technical alignment of the draft. Advocate Amina Parvez, Gender Specialist Nadrat from the Social Welfare Department and representatives from the Prosecution and Law Departments also contributed their professional input and legal expertise to ensure the draft meets practical requirements.

According to officials, the proposed legislation marks a significant milestone in preventing acid and burning crimes in the province, ensuring effective accountability of perpetrators and providing dignified rehabilitation for victims.
