MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) Renowned cardiologist, Prof Dr Kashif Ali Hashmi, on Tuesday assumed charge as Head of the Cardiology Department at Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology (CPEIC) where he has been serving for years.
Prof Hashmi began his medical career in 1997 at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NIVCOD) Karachi and later gained extensive clinical and academic experience during a six-year tenure at Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi.
He joined CPEIC in 2007, where he played a key role in strengthening cardiology services and training programs.
In 2023, he was transferred to Nishtar Medical University, where he served as Head of the Cardiology Department until 2025. His leadership at NMU was marked by advancements in patient care, academic excellence, and research development.
An accomplished physician, Prof Hashmi holds an impressive array of national and international qualifications, including MBBS from Dow, MD (USA), and fellowships such as FACC and FSCAI (USA), FRCP (Glasgow, London, Edinburgh), FESC (France), and FCPS (Pakistan), among many others.
His global recognition reflects his contributions to interventional cardiology and cardiovascular medicine.
Beyond clinical work, Prof Hashmi is an International Advisor for Pakistan to the Royal College of Physicians and serves as a council member for hypertension at the European Society of Cardiology. He is also the Immediate Past President of the Pakistan Hypertension League and a former Joint Secretary of the Pakistan Society of Interventional Cardiology.
A prolific researcher and medical journalist, Prof Hashmi has authored around 60 original research papers and serves as Associate Editor of the Pakistan Heart Journal.
His reappointment at CPEIC is being seen as a major boost to cardiac care services in South Punjab, with expectations of further advancements in clinical practices, research, and training under his leadership.
