SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) Renowned scholar, thinker and literary figure Professor Dr. Haroon-ur-Rasheed Tabassum has passed away, leaving Sargodha’s academic and civic circles in mourning.
Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the prominent academic and social personality, announcing that the late professor would be laid to rest with official honours in recognition of his distinguished services in education, literature and Civil Defence.
In his condolence message, the deputy commissioner described Prof. Tabassum as an accomplished teacher, prolific writer and dedicated public servant whose contributions to Civil Defence were “unforgettable". Serving as Chief Warden Civil Defence, he played a key role in organising volunteers and supporting the administration in maintaining law and order, particularly during Muharram, Eid Milad-un-Nabi and other religious and national occasions.
He noted that the late scholar authored more than 100 books, earning a prominent position in academic circles while providing intellectual guidance to the younger generation.
He was also remembered as a devoted admirer of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) and a committed interpreter of the philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The deputy commissioner said Prof. Tabassum was a close associate of the district administration who consistently offered advice, guidance and practical cooperation. “With his death, Sargodha has lost a dynamic and dignified personality,” he remarked, adding that the city’s atmosphere is one of grief.
He directed all Civil Defence officers and volunteers to attend the funeral in full discipline, shoulder the funeral procession, and present a wreath as a mark of respect. The deputy commissioner also announced that the late professor would be nominated for a government award to formally acknowledge his academic and national services.
He prayed that Allah Almighty grant the deceased a high rank in Paradise and give patience and strength to the bereaved family.
