Singer discusses unstable emotions and impulsive behaviour linked to BPD
Pop superstar Doja Cat has candidly disclosed her ongoing battle with borderline personality disorder (BPD), revealing that she has been grappling with the condition “probably forever”.
The Agora Hills singer shared her experiences in a heartfelt TikTok video on Friday, 13 March, offering insight into her journey with mental health and therapy.
“I learned from a very young age to pretend I liked things, to pretend I was happy, and to hide the things I truly felt,” Doja Cat explained. “I kept it together, but it caught up with me. I am now struggling with BPD.”
She described living with the disorder as “agonising” but emphasised the progress she has made through years of therapy. “I have been in therapy for years, and I am so proud of myself. I have come a long way, even though I still make mistakes. It is all part of the process of treatment and healing,” she added.
Doja Cat’s disclosure coincided with her defence of fellow artist Chappell Roan, who recently faced criticism after requesting paparazzi to leave her alone.
Mental health experts describe borderline personality disorder as a condition that affects how individuals regulate emotions and perceive themselves.
It often involves unstable relationships, intense emotional episodes, impulsive behaviours, and a distorted self-image, making everyday life and interactions particularly challenging.
By sharing her story, Doja Cat contributes to raising awareness about mental health, illustrating that seeking help and prioritising healing is a courageous and ongoing journey.
