Police arrest 5,367 gangsters, recover valuables worth Rs1.23b this year

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) Punjab Police have arrested 5,367 members of 2,104 organized gangs during ongoing province-wide operations this year, recovering valuables worth over Rs1.23 billion along with a large cache of weapons.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the force is continuing vigorous crackdown against organised criminal gangs across the province, including Lahore, to curb crime and ensure public safety. During the operations, 166 vehicles, 3,502 motorcycles, 3,234 mobile phones, 1,759 cattle and 857 tolas of gold were recovered from the possession of the accused.

A heavy quantity of weapons was also seized, including 327 Kalashnikovs, 639 rifles, 11,472 pistols, 889 guns and 263 revolvers, along with 45,384 bullets.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem directed further acceleration of operations against criminal elements and stressed that protection of life and property of citizens must be ensured at all costs.
