LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a heatwave alert,warning of a significant rise in temperatures across the country in the coming days.
According to the PMD,ENSO and IOD conditions remain neutral, however most plain areas are likely to experience extreme heat.
Temperatures were expected to rise further in South Punjab,Upper Sindh and Balochistan.
The department said mercury levels may remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal, with temperatures in plain areas likely to reach 43°C to 45°C.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun,particularly during peak hours.
Health experts warned that heatwave conditions could increase health risks,especially for the elderly,children and patients,urging precautionary measures.
The PMD further forecast rainfall in upper regions from April 27 to April 29, which may reduce temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
However,officials cautioned that heat intensity was likely to rise again after May 1 with intermittent heatwave conditions expected to persist.
Health authorities have advised the public to stay hydrated,remain in cool places and follow safety guidelines,adding that emergency services should be contacted if needed.
