ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 6th, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says he is grateful to President Donald Trump for his courageous leadership and timely announcement regarding the pause in Project Freedom in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on his X handle, he said President Trump's gracious response to the request made by Pakistan and other brotherly countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, will go a long way towards advancing regional peace, stability and reconciliation during this sensitive period.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting all efforts that promote restraint and a peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

The Prime Minister said we are very hopeful that the current momentum will lead to a lasting agreement that secures durable peace and stability for the region and beyond.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan desires a permanent end to the US-Iran war for peace in the region. While addressing the sixth International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, he strongly highlighted Pakistan’s mediation efforts saying these led to the opening of doors of negotiations between the two sides.

He expressed the confidence that the dialogue will soon turn into a sustainable peace in the region without loss of more human lives.

Terming Pakistan's role as historic, the Prime Minister said history will always remember our efforts in golden words. He was appreciative of the efforts of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for ceasefire and talks between the two sides.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his role in peace talks. He said that China, Turkiye and other fraternal countries also contributed in this process.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan pursued a balanced and principled stance in the current regional context.

He emphasized that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have also opened a new chapter in their bilateral relations, emphasizing that protection, defense and security of Harmain Sharifain is more dear to us than our lives. He said the defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is a reaffirmation of this firm resolve.

Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stands firm on its principled position on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir. He said Pakistan will continue to stand by the Palestinian and Kashmiri people until they get the right to self determination.

The Prime Minister called upon the religious scholars to further promote unity and harmony in the Ummah in the light of teachings of holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). He said those who stoke division in the Ummah and perpetrate terrorism cannot be called Muslims.
