ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The solarization of government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan under the Federal government's 100-megawatt solar energy initiative will be completed by December 2026, while the Baltistan Division component is scheduled for completion by October 2026, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was informed during a review meeting on Tuesday.
Chairing a meeting to review progress on the solar energy project in Gilgit-Baltistan, the prime minister directed the authorities concerned to expedite work and ensure the project's completion at the earliest.
During the meeting, the prime minister said that the federal government would fully finance the 100MW solar power project aimed at providing affordable and sustainable energy to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the briefing, an 18MW solarization project for government buildings was being implemented across the region.

Officials further informed the meeting that work was also underway on an 82MW solar energy project for households in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas and Khaplu.
The prime minister emphasized transparency in the execution of the project and directed the authorities to ensure independent third-party validation at all stages.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, and senior government officials.
