Parliamentarians, policymakers urged to enhance domestic resources for vulnerable communities

Amid declining global health financing and growing challenges, parliamentarians and policymakers on Tuesday urged to enhance domestic resource mobilization, protect human rights and prioritize health funding to sustain essential healthcare services for vulnerable communities

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) Amid declining global health financing and growing challenges, parliamentarians and policymakers on Tuesday urged to enhance domestic resource mobilization, protect human rights and prioritize health funding to sustain essential healthcare services for vulnerable communities.

The request has been made by Asghar Satti, National Coordinator APLHIV Pakistan during an Appreciation and Advocacy Get-Together organized by APHIV and Global Fund Advocates Network-Asia Pacific to express sincere gratitude to donor countries supporting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) and to advocate for sustained political and financial commitments towards HIV, tuberculosis and malaria responses.

The gathering was graced by Dr. Zulfiqar, National Coordinator CMU, as Guest of Honour, while former Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Senator Pir Sabir Shah attended as Chief Guest, said a press release issued here.

The guests were received by Asfghar Satti, National Coordinator APLHIV and Deputy Coordinator, Uzair Tariq.

The event brought together more than 80 delegates from across Pakistan, including 10 parliamentarians from the National Assembly, Senate of Pakistan and Provincial Assemblies, alongside representatives from the embassies and high commissions of donor countries including Canada, Japan and Spain.

Representatives from UNAIDS, UNDP, UNOPS, civil society organizations, key populations, community-based organizations, health advocates and the Common Management Unit (CMU) also participated.

Welcoming the guests Asghar Satti, National Coordinator APLHIV Pakistan, emphasized that Global Fund support represented far more than financial assistance.

“It symbolizes solidarity, hope, dignity and lifesaving support for communities affected by HIV, TB and malaria,” he stated.

He further highlighted that shrinking global health financing and challenges like falling short of achieving 8th Global Fund’s Replenishment target, threatens losing of hard earned gains against the three disease.

Parliamentarians, diplomats and development partners appreciated APLHIV Pakistan’s leadership in engaging policymakers and communities and reaffirmed support for strengthened national responses to HIV, TB and malaria.

During the concluding session, APLHIV Pakistan presented key advocacy asks to donor representatives and policymakers, calling for sustained investments in the Global Fund, increased domestic allocations for health, stronger community-led responses, protection of human rights, and meaningful engagement of affected communities in national decision-making processes.

Parliamentarians including MNA Ms. Samar Bilor, Members Provincial Assembly (MPA) Syed Sonia Shah and Ms. Faiza Malik also addressed the gathering. The representatives from Japan, Canada and Spanish embassies also expressed their views.

The event concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to work collectively towards equitable, sustainable and people-centered health responses in Pakistan.
