PLS celebrates 'World Book & Copyright Day' with literacy, AI webinar

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Pakistan Librarians Society (PLS) marked World Book and Copyright Day with a webinar on “Literacy Through Multilingualism and the Advantages of AI,” underscoring the role of libraries in fostering reading culture, critical thinking, and responsible use of technology in education.

The online session brought together professionals, educators, and learners to discuss the role of multilingual approaches in enhancing literacy, as well as the growing impact of artificial intelligence in the field of education.

Speakers at the webinar emphasized the importance of developing a strong reading culture and strengthening the connection between people and libraries. They noted that library professionals play a vital role in encouraging reading habits and guiding individuals in improving their information technology skills.

The speakers highlighted that libraries hold significant value in society, contributing to peace, stability, and mental well-being.

They added that regular reading helps individuals become more knowledgeable, intellectually developed, and critically aware.

Educators were urged to assign tasks that encourage students to visit libraries and consult books for research, enabling them to better understand concepts and develop analytical skills. The speakers also cautioned against over-reliance on Artificial Intelligence(AI) tools. They stressed the importance of consulting reference books and engaging in independent research to foster critical thinking.

Participation in the webinar was free, and attendees were awarded e-certificates.
