LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) DG Environment Imran Hamid Sheikh has said that the business community is working hand in hand with

the government to eliminate plastic, and the target has been set to make Punjab completely plastic-free soon.

He said that caustic bags will be brought under the legal ambit in all shops including Lahore, while there is a plan to eliminate single-use plastic in the entire Punjab within a month.

According to the DG Environment, actions are underway against substandard plastic bags and more than two cases have been registered in this regard. Meanwhile, positive results of the anti-plastic campaign launched five months ago are coming out, he added.

Imran Hamid Sheikh said that single-use plastic has already been eliminated in all the government's model bazaars, shopping malls and plazas, while now this campaign is being extended to every market and shop in the province.

He said that anti-plastic squads have been established in 10 cities of Punjab, which have imposed fines of more than Rs 10 million so far.

According to the DG Environment, strict action is also being taken against factories manufacturing substandard plastic bags and plans are being made to close some factories.
