CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday stepped up enforcement steps under its “zero tolerance” policy, targeting substandard and unsafe food across the district, the officials sources said.
Acting on directives of Director General, Syed Musa Raza, the food safety teams inspected 372 food outlets, production units and milk suppliers.
The teams imposed fines totaling Rs 722,000 on four units and sealed another four for the regulatory violations.
During the inspections, seven suppliers were heavily fined, while more than 10 tonnes of adulterated milk, substandard oil and expired food items were confiscated and recalled from the market.
A PFA spokesperson said tests revealed milk contaminated with water and lacking essential nutrients. The inspections also uncovered kitchens infested with insects, poorly ventilated environments and inadequate sanitation practices.
In several cases, dairy products and meat were stored in dirty, fungus-contaminated freezers, posing serious health risks.
The officials also noted that food handlers at multiple locations failed to present required medical and training certificates.
Raza said strict compliance with food safety laws was mandatory for all businesses, adding that the authority was taking comprehensive steps to ensure quality food and eliminate adulteration.
