PFA seals 3 food units, lodges FIR and imposes Rs240,000 fine

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2026) The enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), on the directions of Director General Syed Musa Raza, carried out operations in Tollinton Market, Shah Kamal, Hanjarwal, Iqbal Town and Gulberg.

During the inspections, raids were conducted on eight food businesses, resulting in the sealing of three units, registration of one FIR and imposition of fines worth Rs240,000 on five food businesses for violating food safety regulations.

The food safety teams discarded 300kg of expired and fungus infested cheese along with more than one maund of unusable vegetables. A milk shop, a soft drinks corner and a chicken shop were sealed, while legal proceedings were initiated against another food business through registration of an FIR. Enforcement actions were taken due to non compliance with previously issued instructions and repeated violations of food safety laws.

DG PFA Musa Raza said that teams observed poor sanitation arrangements and a heavy presence of cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes at the premises.

Food businesses were found washing utensils with non-food-grade detergents in violation of food safety standards. Mandatory records, including food handlers’ medical certificates and food safety training certificates, were also unavailable during the inspections.

He said that poorly maintained freezers and foul environmental conditions, posing a serious risk to food safety and consumer health. Necessary enforcement measures were taken in accordance with the law. He said that day and night operations are continuing to safeguard the health of Lahore’s residents and ensure the availability of safe and quality food. He stated that compliance with food safety regulations is mandatory for all food businesses operating in Punjab.

He further stated that individuals and businesses endangering public health deserve no leniency and strict legal action will continue against all violators of food safety laws.
