LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has disposed of over 45,000 kilograms of spices and other food items during a major crackdown against substandard and adulterated food products ahead of Eid-ul-Azha,officials said on Saturday.
According to PFA officials,enforcement teams conducted raids across different parts of Lahore on the directives of Director General(DG),Syed Musa Raza and inspected six food processing units.
During the operation,two units were sealed, while fines amounting to Rs.350,000 were imposed on four others for violations of food safety regulations.
DG Syed Musa Raza said the seized items were found unfit for human consumption and were disposed of on the spot.
He added that inspections revealed serious violations,including poor storage conditions,unhygienic processing environments and the mixing of expired products with fresh stock.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The confiscated goods included biryani spices,grain flour,pink salt,black salt,coconut powder and other food ingredients,officials said.
Inspection teams also found raw materials contaminated with rodents while several products lacked expiry dates and proper labeling.
Food handlers were reportedly working without mandatory medical certificates and training documentation.
Further irregularities included mould-affected and foul-smelling freezer conditions,stagnant contaminated water on broken floors and the use of non-food-grade detergents for utensil washing,according to officials.
The DG said the authority’s operations were aimed at ensuring safe food supply during the festive season,warning that strict action would continue against those involved in adulteration and negligence.
He added that protecting public health and eliminating the adulteration mafia remained a top priority.
