LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jun, 2026) The Federal government's proposal to allocate Rs71 billion for the Prime Minister's Apna Ghar Scheme in the upcoming fiscal year has been widely welcomed by citizens, economists, and representatives of various sectors, who believe the initiative will not only help address the country's housing shortage but also provide a significant boost to the construction industry and related businesses.
People from different walks of life, while talking to APP on Thursday, described the proposed allocation as a positive step towards facilitating affordable home ownership for low- and middle-income families. They said the scheme would stimulate economic activity, create employment opportunities, and support dozens of industries linked to the construction sector.
According to economic experts, the housing and construction sector plays a vital role in Pakistan's economy due to its strong linkages with more than 40 allied industries, including cement, steel, bricks, paint, ceramics, electrical equipment, sanitary ware, and transportation. Increased investment in housing projects is expected to generate demand across these sectors, contributing to economic growth and job creation.
Muhammad Alam, a contractor based in Lahore, said the proposed allocation reflects the government's commitment to promoting affordable housing and encouraging construction activity. "The construction industry serves as an engine of economic growth.

Similarly, real estate consultant Ahmed Raza noted that access to affordable housing remains a major challenge for many families across the country. He expressed hope that the Prime Minister's Apna Ghar Scheme would enable deserving citizens to achieve their dream of owning a home through easier financing options and government support.
A schoolteacher, Shazia Inam, said that rising property prices have made it increasingly difficult for middle-income families to purchase houses. She believed that the proposed allocation could help make housing more accessible and reduce the financial burden on aspiring homeowners.
Economists observed that investment in housing projects has a multiplier effect on the economy. They explained that every new housing unit creates direct and indirect employment opportunities while increasing demand for locally manufactured construction materials and services.
Representatives of small businesses also welcomed the initiative, saying that increased construction activity would benefit suppliers, retailers, transporters, and service providers. They expressed optimism that the scheme would contribute to economic stability and encourage private-sector investment in housing development.
