Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheemur Rehman Saigol inaugurated Pakistan Chemical Forum's Chemical Expo here at Expo Centre on Thursday

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheemur Rehman Saigol inaugurated Pakistan Chemical Forum's Chemical Expo here at Expo Centre on Thursday.

A large number of industrialists, investors, and business personalities from Pakistan and abroad attended the opening ceremony. The participation of 62 countries and over 300 Chinese companies in the expo clearly reflects that Pakistan’s chemical sector is gaining global attention and holds strong appeal for foreign investors.

In his address, Saigol said that chemical sector is the backbone of the country’s industrial structure as it provides basic raw materials to key sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastics, agriculture, and many others. He stated that if this sector is developed on modern lines, it can not only enhance industrial production but also play a significant role in boosting exports.

He expressed concern that a large portion of chemical raw materials required by local industries is still being imported, which increases production costs and puts pressure on foreign exchange reserves. He said the sustainable solution to this issue lies in localization and import substitution, for which both the government and the private sector must adopt a comprehensive joint strategy.

Pakistan’s biggest economic challenge is the growing trade deficit, he said and noted that there are only two ways to address it: either significantly increase exports or reduce unnecessary imports.

He emphasized that investment in the chemical sector and promotion of local production can help achieve both objectives simultaneously.

He added that the government should provide a conducive policy environment for the chemical industry, including affordable energy, easy financing, technology transfer, and regulatory facilitation, so that local industries can develop in line with global standards. He also stressed the importance of promoting research and development (R&D) in this sector as a critical need of the time.

LCCI President expressed satisfaction that despite all challenges, Pakistan’s chemical sector is growing rapidly and offers vast investment opportunities. He said Pakistan’s geographical location, large market, and emerging industrial capacity can make it an important part of the global supply chain.

He termed the expo a highly significant development, stating that such platforms not only strengthen linkages between local and foreign companies but also create opportunities for joint ventures, technology exchange, and access to new markets. He appreciated the organizers for successfully holding the event and expressed hope that it will have positive impacts on Pakistan’s economy.

At the end of the ceremony, participants visited various stalls and showed keen interest in modern products, technologies, and solutions in the chemical sector, which reflects that this industry in Pakistan has strong potential for further growth in the future.
