Event marks a major milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize its digital infrastructure.
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 10th, 2026) Pakistan has completed the first stage of its 5G spectrum auction, with results officially announced by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The event marks a major milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize its digital infrastructure.
The auction ceremony was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT Minister Shaza Fatima, and Information Minister Atta Tarar, along with PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman. The initial stage offered the 600 MHz spectrum band, which will play a key role in enhancing mobile internet speed and connectivity across the country.
Speaking at the event, IT Minister Shaza Fatima described the day as “historic for Pakistan,” noting that the country previously had only 274 MHz of spectrum, one of the lowest in the region.
She added that the limited spectrum had been a major factor behind slow internet speeds in the country.
Minister Fatima further stated that the government, with full support from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is committed to completing all stages of the 5G rollout efficiently, ensuring Pakistan aligns with global and regional telecommunications standards.
The PTA’s 5G spectrum auction is expected to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape, improve mobile broadband services, and pave the way for technological advancements in sectors such as e-commerce, education, and smart cities.
