LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) A high-level Pakistani food exporters delegation led by to the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Coordinator Saif Ur Rehman, left for Saudi Arabia to assess food requirements there amid ongoing crisis in the middle East.
Talking to media men here at the airport on Sunday, Saif Ur Rehman said the visit comes at a critical time when regional supply chains have been severely disrupted due to war-related tensions, particularly affecting shipping routes and energy flows.
He said the visit will strengthen economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, while reinforcing Pakistan’s emerging role as a dependable partner in ensuring regional food security during turbulent times.
He said, "Our delegation aims to engage with Saudi authorities, assess immediate and long-term food needs, and explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in food exports.
This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader policy to support friendly countries in times of crisis while boosting its own agri-exports." Previously, he mentioned, Pakistan had indicated plans to export surplus food commodities to Gulf states in response to disruptions caused by the conflict.
The prolonged conflict has already started impacting global food security, with warnings that millions could face shortages due to rising energy and fertilizer prices and disrupted trade corridors of Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, are increasingly looking toward reliable partners to ensure uninterrupted food supplies.
Pakistan with its surplus agricultural production and strategic geographic position, is well placed to respond to this demand, he concluded.
