LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Feb, 2026) The district administration imposed fines exceeding Rs1.383 million, registered 11 cases, arrested nine persons and sealed two shops during a large-scale crackdown against profiteers on Saturday.
A total of 5,368 inspections were conducted across the provincial capital to ensure implementation of officially notified price lists and prevent overcharging of essential commodities.
According to a spokesperson for district administration, enforcement teams took on-the-spot action against violators found involved in profiteering. Heavy fines were imposed, while serious breaches led to registration of FIRs and arrests.
The spokesperson said prices of chicken, potatoes, tomatoes, okra, carrots and ginger declined in city markets, whereas rates of other essential items remained stable. Field officers have been directed to strictly enforce the notified rate lists in all markets, impose substantial fines on violators and register cases in instances of serious non-compliance.
Checking of warehouses has also been intensified to curb hoarding.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz said that in line with the vision of the chief minister, no leniency would be shown to those exploiting citizens, and urged the public to lodge complaints through the DC’s official social media platforms or the control room in case of overpricing.
Meanwhile, the Lahore district administration sealed two warehouses in Gulshan Ravi and Nawan Kot for hoarding sugar, flour and ghee during raids conducted under a zero-tolerance policy against hoarding.
On the orders of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ejaz, raiding teams acted on secret information and sealed the warehouses of Awan Brothers Traders and Hafiz General Store. The DC said strict legal action would be taken against hoarders and urged citizens to report such elements to the district administration.
