Over 3,000 personnel deployed for central 9th Muharram procession security: IGP Rizvi

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jun, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi on Wednesday said more than 3,000 personnel of district police, Special Branch and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) had been deployed to ensure security for the central 9th Muharram procession in Sector G-6.

An ITP official told APP that comprehensive security arrangements had been finalized for the central procession scheduled to be held on Thursday, while all operational and emergency response units had been placed on high alert.

The official said the security of the procession would be monitored through the Safe City central control room and mobile command units to ensure real-time surveillance and effective coordination among law enforcement agencies.

According to the IGP Rizvi , the entire procession route has been secured with barbed wire and security barricades, while participants would be provided three-layer security throughout the event.

He said sniper commandos would be deployed on rooftops along the procession route, while scanners had been installed at designated entry points to ensure thorough checking of participants.

Rizvi said the route would be cleared by Bomb Disposal Squad teams equipped with modern detection equipment before the commencement of the procession.

The official said the use of private drones in and around procession areas would be prohibited as part of enhanced security measures.

Special contingents of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), district police and Rangers would remain deployed at the front and rear of the procession to respond promptly to any emergency situation, he added.

According to the official, lady police officers and female volunteers would be deployed for the checking and facilitation of women participants.

The IGP said entry into the procession would only be allowed through designated access points, while parking of vehicles in the vicinity of the procession route would not be permitted.

He said a comprehensive alternate traffic plan had also been formulated to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to commuters during the central Muharram procession./APP-rzr-mkz
