ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jun, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said his long-standing relationship with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was based on mutual respect and trust, adding that the private discussions held between them would remain confidential.
Speaking in the National Assembly while responding to points raised by Maulana Fazlur Rehman during his speech, the Prime Minister remarked that he frequently meets the JUI-F leader and enjoys cordial relations with him.
“I have a long-standing and respectful relationship with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The conversations that have taken place between us in private will remain a secret until the Day of Judgment,” he said.
Earlier, upon arriving in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a warm welcome from members who thumped their desks.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He then crossed over to the opposition benches and greeted several opposition leaders, including Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Gohar Khan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Latif Khosa and Hameed Hussain. The Prime Minister also held a brief conversation with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed appreciation for the sentiments conveyed by PM Shehbaz Sharif. In a lighter vein he remarked that he would not object if the Prime Minister chose to disclose their private discussions.
In response, the Prime Minister said he would not accept the offer, adding that making such conversations public could lead to further complications.
Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also approached the Prime Minister’s seat and exchanged greetings with him during the session.
