PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) A session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, held at cricket stadium, was largely boycotted by opposition parties, while members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) took part in proceedings.

Prior to the session, a meeting of opposition parties was held under the chairmanship of Opposition Leader Dr. Ibadullah, which was attended by all parliamentary leaders of the opposition who decided to

boycott the assembly session.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ibadullah questioned the rationale behind holding the session at a stadium

despite the availability of the assembly building.

He termed the move an unnecessary expense and a cause of inconvenience for the public, calling it a political show and a display activity by the government.

He further criticized what he described as excessive arrangements made for the Chief Minister’s speech, saying they were unjustified.

He also raised concerns about holding such a gathering during a smart lockdown, calling it questionable. He noted that the deployment of thousands of police personnel was putting additional strain on law and order, while the province was already burdened with debt.

He accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of focusing on symbolic politics instead of providing relief to the public, and alleged that government resources were being used to praise PTI founder. He urged authorities to stop wasting taxpayers’ money.

Meanwhile, when the session commenced, PPP lawmakers not only attended but also actively participated in the proceedings of the house.
