ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Jun, 2026) At least one woman lost her life and four children sustained injuries as torrential rains accompanied by hailstorms, thunderstorms and strong winds battered Abbottabad and Mansehra districts, triggering flash floods, landslides and widespread destruction.
The severe weather disrupted road networks, cut off several villages from nearby cities and caused extensive damage to property across the Hazara region.
The heavy downpour and stormy weather created havoc along the Kunhar River and adjoining valleys, where flash floods inundated low-lying areas and blocked numerous roads and thoroughfares.
Landslides at various locations severed road links, leaving many remote villages isolated. The swollen Kunhar River overflowed at several points, while powerful floodwaters swept away household belongings and damaged residential structures.
In a tragic incident in Siran Valley's Jabbar area of Mansehra, a woman was swept away while attempting to cross a rain-fed stream during heavy flooding. Acting on the instructions of District Emergency Officer Mansehra Abrar Ali, Rescue 1122's Water Rescue Team, already on high alert due to the severe weather conditions, rushed to the scene and launched a search operation.
However, darkness forced rescuers to temporarily suspend the operation. The following day, local residents recovered the woman's body near Diwali.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Rescue 1122 officials expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to avoid crossing streams, rivers and flood channels during periods of heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, strong winds accompanying the storm caused a tent erected for a wedding ceremony in Kumhar Bandi, Abbottabad, to collapse when a supporting pillar and overhead structure gave way. The accident left four children injured.
Following the incident, on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram, Additional Assistant Commissioner Kamran Ali Shah visited DHQ Hospital Abbottabad and Ayub Teaching Hospital to inquire after the injured children and meet their families.
Hospital sources said one injured child was discharged after being declared out of danger, while another remains under treatment. Two critically injured children were shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital, where they continue to receive medical care. The Additional Assistant Commissioner reviewed treatment arrangements with doctors and assured the affected families of the district administration's full support and assistance.
Rescue and district administration officials have advised the public to exercise extreme caution during the ongoing spell of severe weather, avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams and flood-prone areas, and strictly follow safety advisories to prevent further loss of life and property.
