One security guard killed, several injured as Ex AJK PM Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy attacked in AJK

MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 17th Jul, 2026) The convoy of former Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas allegedly came under an armed attack by unidentified assailants in Tain Dhalkot town of Rawalakot district on Friday, police sources confirmed.

Authoritative sources, told APP Friday that the incident occurred while Sardar Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy was passing through an area of the Poonch Division. Unidentified individuals reportedly opened indiscriminate fire on the convoy, resulting in the death of one security guard at the scene and injuries to several others.

The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Sources stated that Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was traveling in a bulletproof vehicle at the time of the attack and remained unharmed. Initial reports suggest that the assault was carried out in a well-coordinated manner. However, following a prompt response by security personnel, the attackers managed to flee the scene.

In the aftermath of the incident, security has been placed on high alert across the area. Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation, while checkpoints have been established at various locations to assist in the apprehension of the suspects.

Political and social circles have strongly condemned the attack.
