NMU graduate wins UHS gold medal in MS Obstetrics & Gynaecology

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jul, 2026) In a landmark achievement for Nishtar Medical University (NMU), Multan, Dr. Mahwish Naz has become the first postgraduate graduate of the university to receive the Gold Medal (Best Graduate) in MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore.

Dr. Naz earned the distinction under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Saima Ashraf, Head of Gynae Unit-III (Ward 17), whose academic mentorship and research guidance were instrumental in her success. The achievement highlights the high standard of postgraduate training in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at NMU.

Speaking to APP, Dr. Naz said she had secured third position in the board of Intermediate and Secondary education (BISE), Dera Ghazi Khan, before completing her MBBS from King Edward Medical University.

She credited Prof. Dr. Saima Ashraf for her invaluable support in research and preparation of her thesis.

Prof. Dr. Saima Ashraf said she was delighted to see her student achieve the prestigious honour, noting that she herself had received gold medals in both MBBS and FCPS. She added that NMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mehnaz Khakwani was also a gold medalist during her time at the then Nishtar Medical College.

Calling the achievement a proud moment for the university, Prof. Dr. Saima said it reflected NMU's commitment to academic excellence and the development of highly qualified specialists in women's healthcare.
