RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hasan Waqar Cheema has said that the Nigahban Dastarkhwan programme is an important welfare initiative aimed at providing relief to deserving citizens in a dignified and transparent manner during the holy month of Ramazan.
He expressed these views while joining MNA Tahira Aurangzeb for iftar with guests at a Nigahban Ramazan Dastarkhwan in Rawalpindi.
The programme is being implemented in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with the district administration ensuring free iftar meals for thousands across the district.
According to officials, around 6,000 people are served daily, while arrangements have been made for more than 7,000 individuals at 16 locations across Rawalpindi district.
The beneficiaries include 1,150 people in Rawalpindi City, 1,510 in Rawalpindi Cantt, 1,500 in Taxila, 750 in Gujar Khan, 345 in Kahuta, 310 in Rawalpindi Saddar and 300 in Kallar Syedan.
During the visit, the deputy commissioner and the MNA interacted with patients, attendants and other citizens, reviewed the arrangements and checked cleanliness, availability of medicines and the quality of iftar meals.
The officials concerned were directed to ensure the provision of the best facilities, with a clear warning that negligence would not be tolerated.
The deputy commissioner added that the district administration was monitoring arrangements on a daily basis to maintain quality and discipline, ensuring that maximum relief is provided to the public during Ramazan.
