MQM-P leader urges end to petroleum levy, major cut in sales tax rate

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader and MNA Dr Farooq Sattar, on Wednesday focused on maximum relief to poor class of the country by ending levy on fuel and lowering the sales tax rate from 17 to 9 percent.

Talking to APP, he said Allah Almighty had elevated Pakistan's dignity and stature in the world after Markh-e-Haq and that the time had come to translate that achievement into economic relief for the people, particularly those living below the poverty line.

He urged the government to abolish the petroleum levy and take measures aimed at reducing the cost of living for ordinary citizens, proposing huge taxes on elite class with substantial income and large landowners.

He described the proposal as a simple and practical formula for improving the economic conditions of millions of Pakistanis and helping lift them out of poverty.
