More than 100 homes destroyed in Norway fire

Hundreds of people were evacuated near the city of Drammen.

A fast-moving and devastating wildfire destroyed more than 100 homes near the southern city of Drammen on Friday, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate as flames spread through a densely populated residential area.

Thick black smoke covered western Oslo, but there were no reports of deaths, injuries or missing people. The fire swept through a neighborhood of terraced homes.

More than 60 firefighters, along with specialized water-bombing helicopters, continued working to contain the blaze despite difficult and changing conditions.

Hundreds of people were evacuated near the city of Drammen as emergency crews battled strong winds to contain the historic wildfire.

According to Reuters, the fire caused widespread damage, and emergency crews worked to contain the flames and protect nearby communities. Authorities said the cause of the wildfire remains under investigation. The fire also caused extensive property damage.

The wildfire displaced dozens of families as authorities assessed the extent of the damage and continued investigating the cause of the fire.
