The initiative, spearheaded by the City Municipal Corporation Mirpur, follows directives from Mayor Chaudhry Usman Ali Khalid, with authorities emphasizing improved sanitation as a key pillar of the ongoing “face-lifting” campaign.

According to officials, the Health and Sanitation Department, supervised by SDO Hafeez-ur-Rehman, initiated the first phase by eliminating a major garbage dump near Allama Iqbal Open University and adjacent educational institutions along Kotli Road. The site was cleared, treated with soil and lime, and sealed to prevent reuse, with monitoring staff deployed. Additional efforts included cleaning nearby streets, sewer lines, and public spaces, while the second phase has commenced along key arteries such as Mian Muhammad Road and Hall Road, focusing on roadside waste removal and vegetation trimming.

Special attention has also been given to public recreational spaces, including green belts and parks in residential sectors, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for residents, particularly families and women who frequent these areas during the summer. Authorities said the drive will continue in phases to cover the entire city.

The mayor has urged citizens to actively cooperate by avoiding open dumping of waste and utilizing municipal disposal services. He warned that unchecked garbage heaps pose serious health risks, especially to children, and called on residents to play a responsible role in maintaining cleanliness in their homes, streets, and neighborhoods to support the city’s transformation.
