Mirpur comes alive with patriotic fervour on Pakistan Day celebrations

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Mar, 2026) The lake-side district of Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Monday celebrated the 86th Pakistan Day with immense enthusiasm, vibrant zeal, and remarkable fervor, as people from all walks of life participated actively in various events. The day was observed in line with celebrations across the country, while the district reflected a festive and spirited atmosphere marked by strong expressions of patriotism.

A grand flag hoisting ceremony was held at the district headquarters, where City Mayor Ch. Usman Khalid Ali, Deputy Commissioner Raja Sadaqat Hussain, SSP Khurram Iqbal, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Ijaz Raja jointly unfurled the national flags of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. A smartly turned-out contingent of AJK Police presented a formal salute, meanwhile the ceremony was attended by elected representatives, civil society members, and officials of the local administration in large numbers.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries highlighted the historic importance of Pakistan Day, recalling the Pakistan Movement under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. They emphasized that March 23 symbolizes a defining moment in the struggle for a separate homeland, therefore reiterating the Kashmiris’ unwavering commitment to continue their freedom movement until the realization of their aspirations. The speakers also paid rich tribute to the leaders and martyrs whose sacrifices led to the creation of Pakistan.

Furthermore, national flags of Pakistan and AJK were hoisted atop public and private buildings across the district, while streets and structures were beautifully illuminated to mark the occasion.
