Minister for taking measures to increase cleanliness awareness

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique chaired a meeting of Suthra Punjab Authority (SPA) held at SPA office. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and Director General SPA Babar Sahib Din were also present while all divisional commissioners participated in the meeting through video link.

During the meeting, the administrative matters of Suthra Punjab Authority were considered and the work of the committees established at the divisional level for the transfer of assets to the district agencies was reviewed.

Minister Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, while emphasizing the need for measures to increase social awareness regarding cleanliness, said that the preparation of an animation under the supervision of the SPA is commendable.

"In this animation film, 'Suthra Hero' gives lessons to young generation about necessity of cleanliness", he elaborated. He directed that this interesting awareness film series be widely disseminated on social media. The Minister said that it is possible to achieve the cleanliness targets only with the full cooperation of the citizens. He said that the activities of the agencies at the district level under the authority model are yielding good results. "Deputy Commissioners and District MDs should make the monitoring process more effective", he urged.

He said that Suthra Punjab is a program close to the heart of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. "The existence of such a large network today is the result of the Chief Minister’s vision. The trust of the people in the recent IPOR survey is a great honor for Suthra Punjab. We will maintain this spirit of teamwork to meet the expectations of the people", he pledged.

Zeeshan Rafique said that progress is being ensured on the waste-to-value project in the next phase of Suthra Punjab. "Eid-ul-Adha is approaching, so all arrangements should be completed in advance. Suthra Punjab has become a strong network after going through the experimental stages. We all have to resolve to give better results this time compared to the last two Eids", he remarked.

The minister said that if additional resources are required for Eid operations, they will be provided.

On this occasion, Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, while emphasizing effective measures for anti-litteration, said that the process of transferring assets from waste management companies to district agencies is in the final stage. "Commissioners should personally supervise the divisional committees so that this process is completed smoothly", he directed.
