Meeting reviews establishment of NSIT City in Faisalabad economic zone

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Mar, 2026) Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Senator Anusha Rehman and Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain chaired a meeting to review progress and future plans regarding the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City (NSIT) in Faisalabad’s economic zone, here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Information Technology Department Zaheer Hassan, Dr Irfan, Director GSI, Central business District (CBD), and Sameer Aftab, Director Architecture and Planning, along with other officials.

During the meeting, participants held a detailed discussion on the proposed development of NSIT City Faisalabad, focusing on the construction of data centres, technology zones, and modern digital infrastructure to support the growth of the information technology sector.

The meeting also reviewed the existing facilities and industrial potential at the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FEDMC), where the project is being considered.

On the occasion, Punjab Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that FEDMC spans approximately 8,000 acres, adding that nearly 4,000 people are currently employed in various industrial units operating in the zone. He added that several major international companies are exploring opportunities to establish industrial setups there in the near future, which would further enhance economic activity in the region.

The meeting agreed that there is a need to explore various feasible options in collaboration with FEDMC for the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City in Faisalabad. In this regard, the IT and Innovation Department would work closely with FEDMC to move the project forward.

Senator Anusha Rehman, briefing the participants about the scope of the project, said that Nawaz Sharif IT City is being envisioned as a state-of-the-art and fully integrated technology ecosystem. She said the initiative is aligned with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to promote technological advancement, foster innovation and attract foreign investment in the province’s fast-growing digital sector. She added that the project aimed to strengthen Punjab’s digital economy, create new employment opportunities for the youth, and facilitate the development of modern IT infrastructure.

The Senator emphasized that NSIT is not merely an infrastructure project, but rather a platform for sustainable economic growth and technological development that would connect Punjab’s workforce and industries with global technological trends and opportunities. She expressed confidence that through coordinated efforts between government departments and industrial stakeholders, the project would play a key role in transforming Faisalabad into an important technology and innovation hub in the coming years.
