KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited the ongoing restoration projects in the historic markets under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and directed the concerned officials to ensure that all work would be completed by June 30.
During the visit, he conducted a detailed inspection of development and restoration work at Civil Line Market, Lea Market, and Machhi Miani Market, expressing satisfaction over the progress.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor Karachi said that these old markets were not only being restored to their original condition but were also being upgraded with modern facilities to make them state-of-the-art, providing a better commercial environment for citizens.
He said that if proper care had been taken of the municipal heritage in the past, these buildings would not have fallen into such a dilapidated condition.
The Mayor Karachi further said the ongoing development projects of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation have now started becoming visible to the public and would soon be completed and presented before citizens, enhancing the city’s historical and commercial significance.
He also directed officials to ensure that no compromise was made on the quality of restoration work and to further accelerate the pace so that projects would be completed within the stipulated timeframe. He noted that the restoration of these markets would not only boost business activities but also increase tourist interest.
Reaffirming his commitment, the Mayor Karachi stated that comprehensive planning was also underway for the restoration of other historic sites and buildings across the city, to preserve Karachi’s cultural heritage for future generations.
