KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Feb, 2026) Police in the Defence area arrested an alleged drug dealer who had been posing as a journalist and was reportedly involved in narcotics trade, gambling, and extortion activities.
According to a news release issued by the spokesperson for SSP South on Friday, Defence police conducted an operation in District South and apprehended a suspect identified as Waqar Memon alias Kodu, son of Abdul Rasheed.
Police recovered 2,650 grams of hashish from the possession of the accused along with a written slip containing Names of multiple individuals and details of money allegedly collected from them as extortion.
Investigators said the suspect used to falsely present himself as a journalist and carried out illegal activities under the guise of journalism, allegedly extracting money from people. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he generated illegal income through drug trafficking, gambling, and betting operations. He also admitted that fabricated messages and news reports were circulated against individuals who refused to pay him.
Police officials described the suspect as a habitual offender who had previously been arrested several times and had served jail terms. He is also nominated in multiple FIRs, while further investigation is underway.
