ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Mar, 2026) Alongside the joy of meeting family members, relatives, and friends during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr, a large number of people in the Federal capital also visited graveyards to remember their departed loved ones and offered Fateha.
Citizens visited cemeteries to pray for the deceased, with many preferring to go soon after Fajr prayers. The practice was observed consistently throughout all the three days of Eid.
People of all age groups were seen visiting graveyards, reciting Quranic verses and offering Fateha while sitting beside the graves of their love ones. Many placed flower sheets, scattered rose petals, and sprinkled rose water on the graves, their faces reflecting a mix of remembrance and grief.
Talking to APP, Raheem, who was visiting his father’s grave at H-10 graveyard, said that he used to
visit his father's grave every year on Eid after Fajr prayer. “On Eid, I recall the days when I used to go shopping with my father, offer Eid prayers with him, and spend the entire day together.
Now I feel his absence deeply,” he shared.
Flower sellers also set up stalls outside graveyards to facilitate visitors. Fareed Khan, a flower vendor, told APP that stalls were arranged a day before Eid for the convenience of people, as many visit graveyards early in the morning after Fajr prayers.
Another visitor, Asad, said that he usually prefered visiting graveyards on the first day of Eid but, due to domestic reasons, he came to the city on the third day this year and now came here to offer Fateha at his mother’s grave.
In addition to Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant number of people visit graveyards on other religious occasions such as Eid-ul-Azha, Eid Milad-un-Nabi, and Shab-e-Barat to pray for the departed souls of their relatives and friends.
The visits reflect a deep-rooted cultural and religious tradition, highlighting that Eid is not only a time of celebration but also a moment of remembrance for those who are no longer among their loved ones.
