PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Adviser to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Finance, Muzammil Aslam has announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is preparing new legislation aimed at ensuring the timely completion of development projects, financial transparency and the efficient use of public resources.
Speaking during the budget debate in the provincial assembly, Aslam said unnecessary delays and rising costs in development schemes have placed a significant burden on government resources, making a clear legal framework essential.
He revealed that the provincial government is introducing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based monitoring system to oversee development expenditures, scrutinize bills and improve financial management. An AI Authority is also being established to strengthen governance and enhance transparency through modern technology.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>According to the proposed framework, development projects costing up to Rs100 million will be required to be completed within a maximum period of three years. Projects worth up to Rs1 billion will have a four-year completion deadline, while larger projects will be given a maximum of five years.
Muzammil Aslam noted that the absence of legally defined completion timelines has resulted in many development schemes remaining unfinished for years, leading to substantial cost overruns and increased pressure on public finances.
He further stated that the current provincial government has significantly reduced the pace of borrowing.
However, debts accumulated by previous administrations continue to impose billions of rupees in annual financial obligations on the province.
