PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has stepped up efforts to address escalating environmental threats by forming a high-level Climate Resilience Committee aimed at strengthening policy coordination and promoting sustainable development across the province.

According to an official press release issued here Thursday, the Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development and includes key stakeholders such as the Secretaries of Environment, Forests and Wildlife, Planning and Development, Finance, Irrigation, Local Government, and Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement.

The Committee will also comprise the Director General Forests, representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, environmental and climate change experts and development partners to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response to climate-related risks.

The officials said the initiative reflects the province’s renewed commitment to climate resilience, particularly as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains highly vulnerable to the impacts of Climate Change due to its unique geography and natural resource base.

The Committee will focus on strengthening mitigation and adaptation strategies, ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and integrating environmental considerations into development planning. The government’s policy framework emphasizes “development in harmony with nature,” prioritizing afforestation drives, watershed management, forest conservation, and ecosystem restoration.

In addition, awareness campaigns and training programs are being rolled out at the community level to educate the public on climate risks and practical adaptation measures, encouraging broader participation in environmental protection efforts.

Reaffirming its commitment, the provincial government said it would continue taking proactive steps to build a greener, safer, and more sustainable future under its vision of a “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” where development and environmental preservation go hand in hand.
