PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan here Wednesday said that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has effectively presented the province’s case during the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), securing important commitments regarding KP’s constitutional and financial rights.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Shafi Jan said that the assurance to update the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award reflects the success of the provincial government’s stance.
He welcomed the decision to include the financial share of the merged districts in the new NFC Award, describing it as a major achievement and good news for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The minister emphasized that safeguarding the constitutional and financial rights of KP remains the provincial government’s top priority. He said that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has consistently raised a strong and effective voice for the province’s rights at every constitutional forum since assuming office.
Shafi Jan said that the KP government is seeking only its constitutional and legal entitlements.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He stressed that development targets in the merged districts cannot be achieved without their full financial inclusion in national resource allocations.
He added that the provincial government has adopted a comprehensive strategy to promote development and stability in the merged districts.
The information minister claimed that the Federal government owes the province billions of rupees under various heads, including the NFC Award, war-on-terror compensation, and net hydel profits. He said that recovery of these outstanding dues would be utilized for the province’s development and public welfare.
Shafi Jan also announced that a large-scale protest would be held in Islamabad on June 12 under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to press for the province’s rights.
He reaffirmed that the provincial government will continue its struggle for the fair distribution of resources and the protection of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s constitutional rights.
