MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF-Y) has re-elected its incarcerated chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik for a third consecutive term, the party announced on Tuesday.

Yasin Malik, who is currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail in Delhi and serving a life sentence, was re-elected unopposed for the 2026–2029 term. The party described the charges against him as unjust and politically motivated.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalakot, former chief organiser and head of the election commission Sardar Qadeer Khan said the party conducted its internal elections through an online secret ballot for the first time in its history. He said nominations were invited for 15 central positions, while no other candidate contested the chairman slot.

He added that voting for other posts was held on April 29–30, after which results were announced. Syed Toqeer Gilani was elected Senior Vice Chairman, defeating sitting office bearer Raja Muzaffar, and will serve as acting chairman in Malik’s absence.

Other elected office bearers include Sardar Naseem Iqbal Advocate and Khawaja Abdullah as Vice Chairmen, Professor Azmat A Khan as Secretary General, Advocate Shakeel Choudhry as Chief Organiser, and Shakeel Jaral as Press and Publicity Secretary. The newly elected leadership will take oath in an online ceremony on Saturday, Qadeer Khan said.
