‘Jashan-e-Hazara’ begins with display of culture, traditional sports

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The historic and culturally rich festival “Jashan-e-Hazara,” a centuries-old symbol of the traditions and heritage of the Hazara region, officially commenced in Haripur with great enthusiasm and colorful celebrations.

The festival, which has been organized continuously for the past 112 years, reflects the vibrant culture, traditional sports, and social harmony of the people of Hazara Division.

The grand opening ceremony was inaugurated by Taj Muhammad Tarand. Akbar Ayub MPA, Regional Sports Officer Peshawar Ahmad Zaman, along with several political, social, and sports personalities, also participated in the ceremony.

The three-day cultural festival features a wide range of healthy and entertaining activities for both men and women, including Naat gatherings, tent pegging competitions, horse racing, marathon races, Kabaddi matches, and various traditional games.

A special women’s “Meena Bazaar” has also been established, showcasing handicrafts, traditional dresses, and local cultural products that beautifully represent the heritage of the Hazara region.

A large number of people from different parts of the province are participating in the festival and enjoying the lively atmosphere filled with cultural colors and traditional celebrations.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Taj Muhammad Tarand said that “Jashan-e-Hazara” is not merely a festival but a symbol of centuries-old traditions, cultural identity, and unity among the people of Hazara. He stated that such cultural and traditional events help the younger generation reconnect with their heritage while encouraging them towards positive and healthy activities.

He further added that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking practical steps to promote sports and cultural activities in order to engage youth in constructive pursuits and build a healthier society.

Traditional sports competitions attracted huge crowds during the festival, while horse racing and Kabaddi contests remained the center of attention.

The competitions will continue for three days, and participants urged the government and organizers to further promote the historic event at the international level so that Hazara’s culture and traditions can gain global recognition.
