Baghaei says Iran has informed Pakistan that it will not attend proposed talks in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 20th, 2026) Iran has decided not to participate in the second round of talks with the United States and will not send its delegation to Pakistan, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said on Monday.
Baghaei said Iran had informed the Pakistani mediator that it would not attend the proposed talks in Islamabad, accusing Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement and undermining diplomatic efforts.
According to Baghaei, the United States is not serious about advancing the diplomatic process and has engaged in what Tehran describes as aggressive actions, which have further escalated tensions.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson said the US proposals were “not serious” and its demands “unrealistic,” adding that Iran has clearly defined its position and will not alter its stated requirements.
He warned that if the United States or Israel launch further aggression, Iran’s armed forces will respond decisively.
Baghaei also alleged that prior to recent developments, the Strait of Hormuz remained stable, but current conditions have disrupted maritime movement in the region.
He further claimed that Washington has repeatedly violated diplomatic understandings and carried out attacks on Iranian territory, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure.
According to him, the ongoing security situation has made it impossible to normalise maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz under current circumstances.
