Independent, responsible media key to democracy: Wajih Qamar

She highlighted that education and awareness were vital for building a civilized society, adding that the media served as a key pillar in this process.

The minister stated that responsible journalism not only kept the public informed but also promoted tolerance, dialogue and positive thinking.

She added that Pakistan had consistently upheld the values of peace, dialogue and mutual respect, with journalists playing a crucial role in advancing these ideals.

Paying tribute to journalists who lost their lives in the pursuit of truth, she said their sacrifices serve as a reminder that press freedom is not only a right but also a profound responsibility.

Wajih Qamar urged media professionals to prioritize ethical standards, thorough research and responsibility to ensure the dissemination of accurate and credible information.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and continuing efforts to provide an enabling environment for its constructive growth.
