PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) In a step toward enhancing public safety, the Safe City Project in Peshawar has installed panic buttons at 68 different locations across the city to provide immediate assistance to citizens during emergencies.
According to official sources on Wednesday, this initiative is part of broader efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to improve security and ensure rapid response in critical situations.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed has said that the project is playing an effective role in preventing terrorism and helping law enforcement respond swiftly to crimes.
The installed panic buttons are equipped with audio and video communication features and are directly connected to the Safe City Project’s central control room.
This allows authorities to monitor situations in real time and dispatch police units without delay.
The IGP emphasized that in any emergency, pressing the panic button ensures immediate police response at the location. He added that the system is particularly beneficial for women, students and people in public areas, enhancing their sense of security.
Following a positive response from the public, authorities have decided to expand the project to other cities as well. For now, 68 panic buttons have been installed in key areas of Peshawar.
Zulfiqar Hameed described the initiative as a “gift” from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to the public, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding lives and property at all times.
