IG Sindh Police directs for strict security measures on Ashura across Sindh

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Javaed Alam Odho held telephonic conversations with Additional IG Karachi and all Zonal and divisional Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) regarding security arrangements for the Ashura-e-Muharram, the 10th Muharram-ul-Haram.

IG Sindh Javaed Alam Odho conducted a detailed review of the security situation regarding Ashura processions, majalis, and sensitive locations across the province, directing authorities to ensure foolproof security measures at all costs, said a spokesperson of Inspector General of Police, Sindh here on Friday.

The IG Sindh directed that strict and effective implementation of the security plan must be ensured and close surveillance must be kept on suspicious elements.

The IG Sindh said that continuous and effective monitoring of processions and majalis must be ensured through CCTV surveillance, command and control rooms, and the effective use of modern technology.

Javaed Alam Odho said that complete liaison and coordination must be maintained among Emergency Response Units, the Bomb Disposal Squad, the Special Branch, and other relevant agencies.

He directed that all district officers must personally visit procession routes, Imam Bargahs, and sensitive locations to ensure continuous monitoring of security arrangements. Special arrangements must be made along procession routes and around majalis to pre-emptively thwart any potential untoward incidents, law and order situations.

He said that strict monitoring must be maintained at the entry and exit points of processions and majalis. Parking areas for the vehicles of participants and the access routes must be kept clear and secure.

Javaed Alam Odho directed that all officers must remain in continuous contact with the Sindh Government, district administration, and other relevant institutions.

He also directed that smooth coordination must be maintained with law enforcement agencies, including Pakistan Rangers Sindh, as well as the volunteers managing the processions and majalis.
