Ministry of Petroleum says price of petrol has been reduced by Rs6 per litre while rate of high-speed diesel has been slashed by Rs6.80 per litre
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 22nd, 2026) The Federal government has announced a fresh reduction in petroleum product prices, providing relief to consumers grappling with persistent inflationary pressure across the country.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Petroleum said that the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs6 per litre while the rate of high-speed diesel has been slashed by Rs6.80 per litre.
The revised fuel prices will come into effect from midnight as part of the government’s routine fortnightly pricing adjustment mechanism.
Officials said the new prices will remain applicable for the next review period, after which fresh adjustments will be announced in line with changes in global oil prices and exchange rate movements.
The ministry stated that the decision has been taken in accordance with international market trends, which have shown slight stability in crude oil rates over the past fortnight.
It added that the government continues to monitor global energy markets closely to ensure that any benefit is passed on to the public in a timely manner.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The latest reduction is expected to bring relief to multiple sectors of the economy, particularly transport, logistics, and small businesses, where fuel costs constitute a major portion of operational expenses.
Daily commuters are also likely to benefit from reduced travel costs following the revision.
This latest cut follows a similar downward adjustment on May 16, when fuel prices were also reduced under the same pricing mechanism.
That earlier revision had provided relief of Rs5 per litre in petrol and diesel rates.
Government officials emphasized that the pricing mechanism is designed to reflect fluctuations in international oil markets while balancing domestic economic pressures.
They added that the aim is to ensure transparency and stability in fuel pricing while minimizing the impact of global volatility on local consumers.
Analysts believe that while the reduction offers short-term relief, sustained stability in global oil prices will be necessary to maintain long-term price consistency in the domestic market.
