Global Mission team visit Larkano, check M-Pox and HIV cases and informed its prevention to transgender, Hospital Staff

LARKANA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2026) The Global Mission Team (International Monitors, WHO) and the National Institute of Health Monitoring Team from Islamabad visited District Larkano. The main focus of the visit was surveillance of M-Pox and HIV and assessment of Infection Prevention & Control [IPC] protocols here on Saturday.

The teams were divided into two groups, one Monitor IPC protocols and measures at health facilities and second conduct field surveillance for M-Pox & HIV, meet with communities, and discuss key issues.

As per the directions of District Health Officer Dr. Shoukat Ali Abro Dr. Farman Ali Abro, DDHO / Focal Person HIV & IPC, and Capt. Dr. Shahid Hussain Khokhar, Assistant Director Health, coordinated and facilitated the teams from the District Health Office Larkano.

At both facilities, the team met with MS Ratodero Dr. Shah Hussain Shah and MS Dr. Amjad Ali Bijarani and IPC Focal Person CMCH Dr Marvi Qazi. They inspected the Trauma Center, MNCH Block, dressing rooms, surgical units, OTs, blood banks, laboratories, and incinerators. During monitoring, the team engaged with doctors, staff nurses, technicians, Lady Health Supervisors, Lady Health Workers, and other staff to assess their knowledge and practices related to IPC protocols.

In the village, the team met with the community and Lady Health Workers to discuss awareness of M-Pox and HIV, along with issues related to poverty, access to supportive treatment, and laboratory investigations.

Preventive measures and health education were provided.

At the BCF office, the team met with transgender persons and female sex workers to provide awareness on M-Pox and HIV prevention.

Both groups convened at the DHO Office Larkano and met with Additional District Health Officer Dr. Hafeezullah Abro and Taluka Health Officer Dokri Dr. Altaf Ahmed Rahujo. They shared preliminary findings from the visits.

On behalf of the District Health Officer, DDHO Dr. Farman Ali Abro warmly welcomed the Global Mission. On behalf of DHO Larkano, ADHO Dr. Hafeezullah Abro presented traditional cultural gifts on behalf of District Health Officer Dr. Shoukat Ali Abro to the distinguished guests Sindhi souvenirs as a symbol of respect and hospitality.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Global and NIH Mission teams visited the Mazaar of Former Prime minsters of islamic Republic of Pakistan Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto sb and Shaheed Muhtrama Benazir Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. Fatiha was offered for the departed souls.
