GIMS Gambat: 8-year-old’s liver transplant marks another success story

SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) In another successful case at the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), an eight-year-old boy from Karachi has made a full recovery after a life saving liver transplant.

Muhammad Saifullah underwent a liver transplant at GIMS on June 8, 2022. At the time of the surgery, he was a Class 3 student suffering from familial hypercholesterolemia, a serious inherited disorder that causes dangerously high cholesterol levels and can lead to early organ damage.

The complex procedure was performed by the Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery Department at GIMS.

In an act of profound courage, his mother, 42-year-old Saima Jameell, donated a portion of her liver to save her son’s life.

Nearly four years on, Saifullah is living a healthy, active life with no post transplant complications.

Doctors at GIMS saying that he requires only routine follow ups and is thriving both physically and academically.

The family expressed deep gratitude to Allah and extended special thanks to GIMS Director Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti and Program Director Dr Abdul Wahab Dogar, crediting their expertise, dedication, and care for making the transplant possible.

GIMS officials said the case highlights the institute’s growing capability in pediatric liver transplants and the impact of living donor programs in Sindh.

The GIMS hospital Gambat continues to provide free-of-cost transplant services under the Sindh government’s health initiatives.
